BOOK REVIEWS

Veneficii Generibus: Book of Sorcery Styles

Ambroze Hildreth

Battle Mage, 204 pages, (paperback) $25.99, 9798893959628

(Reviewed: May 2025)

Ambroze Hildreth's self-described "scientific approach to performing the mystic arts" is an extensive compilation of spells grouped according to specific guidelines, preceded by a survey of the belief systems he utilizes.

Intended for those on the journey "to becoming a wizard," the book establishes basic laws that ground the practices, many of which "break some societal illusions." He defines science as "The subconscious of the universe... the order we follow, the law in which things work." Chemistry is "a number-like system that's naturally made"; biology is based on these chemical laws which also "creates our physics."

When describing human consciousness and evolution, Hildreth implies an underlying moral code rooted in individual actions: "[T]echnique, skill, and moments" create power, which "is earned... You are worthy of what you create yourself into." He also notes that "Your worst enemy and rival is yourself."

Hildreth provides some framework of understanding for those who wish to practice the book's spells. Chakras, auras, and processes, along with Chinese, Celtic, and Norse representations of the Seeds of Life, come into play, among other elements. The author also offers a series of "mind-understanding" tools, including meditation, "biofield manipulation," and third eye exercises.

Charts and illustrations complement the text, and readers can easily dip into the portions of the book that are personally relevant, rather than reading straight through.

The book is not for skeptics, however. The author's definition of science is based on his own belief system, and he assumes readers are onboard with his viewpoint. It's also not for beginners, as terms are often not defined and instruction can be extremely cursory ("Taste the feeling of an atom"; "Create a connection with the earth, feeling its charge, and its nanoteslas"). The author employs plentiful jargon that can be off-putting ("emomancer," "biomagnetism concentration," "subducti").

While clearer explanations would benefit all readers, those who seriously study the "do-no- harm" forms of magic and healing will find an abundance of ideas to investigate here.

A book of practical approaches to the personal and spiritual aspects of wizardry.

As Hildreth explains, this book is designed for readers to carve out their own paths to "becoming a wizard." (Wizardry, per the author, is about understanding and manipulating worlds both inside and outside of an individual.) First, Hildreth provides explanations of the basics: One must understand the nature of different numbers and colors. Take zero; it is "significant for nothing, and the most literal nothing is space." Colors also have meanings, such as green representing kindness and blue representing honesty. The author offers instructions on practices like meditation and prayer. Hildreth introduces techniques like "Mindscape Building," used to "allow the exploration of your inner mind and turn it into a valuable tool." With this tool sharpened, readers can access the mysteries at the heart of the book in chapters with titles like "Sound Mage," "Time Mage," and "Tree Mage." These tend to run to a page in length and are thick with information. In a chapter titled "Mirror Mancer," readers learn that they have access to something called the "mirror realm"; this is useful if one seeks to set mirror traps for "negative entities and demons."

It's all a lot to take in. Even though the text includes fewer than 200 pages, it feels much longer as it incorporates a vast array of subjects that range from the different layers of existence to "using a micro-movement" to generate an echoing thunderclap. While the material can be intimidatingly abstruse, the book is written in serious, straightforward language that allows the reader to look at the world in a new way. Even if one does not set out to complete the path to practicing sorcery, it is easy to appreciate a statement like "We are an electrical system within ourselves, and with proper techniques, we can utilize and direct that power." The work ultimately provides a tangible starting point to processing information that is not always as mysterious as it may first appear.

A straightforward (if dense) guide to understanding one's inner, esoteric abilities.

Meet The Author

Ambroze Hildreth

I am a HVAC Technician trained at South Texas Vocational Technical School. I have been in the field for over 10 years.

I was born in Edinburgh Texas, and raised in Kodiak Alaska, where I still hold me residence. I was raised catholic, however started to study other ways of life such as Buddhism at the age of 17.

I achieved multiple forms of enlightenment, including chakra illumination by the time I was 25. I have self-studied multiple subjects, from tachyon theory to quantum physics, as well as different forms of technology, and the body extensively.

I have turned myself into a jack of the trades and am slowly working my way to becoming a master jack. Of course, this requires me to further educate myself, so I wrote a book on my findings so that I may fund my way through school.

My first book is Veneficii Generibus, and its purpose is to bring about the reality of what we call “magic” to a more realistic view or possibility for the future. This is my first of several books and just the start of my journey. One ends so another can begin, that is where I am at in life.
